Harry Jackson, Regional Manager for our North region, answers our questions about his role at Richborough and the land promotion industry.
1. What does a typical day involve for a Regional Manager?
It’s really busy and varied, including:
- Reviewing site opportunities which involves understanding constraints, reviewing Local Plan policies which can impact a development’s potential and appraising the site to decide whether it would meet our criteria.
- Inputting the data into our business platform called The Richborough Platform
- Negotiating and reviewing legal agreements
- Liaising with consultants, agents and colleagues on sites across the portfolio.
What do you enjoy about your role as Regional Manager?
The role is fulfilling, as with most sites you begin the journey by submitting an offer, the various stages of the bid process, preparing the application, marketing the site and disposing to development partner, so it can be very satisfying (ignoring all the bumps on the way!). Working on numerous sites which are at different stages of the planning cycle which provides a wide variety of tasks. And of course the social events!
What do you not enjoy about your role?
Local Plan delays!!
What do you enjoy about working for Richborough?
The culture that has been created makes the working environment very special and hard to come by plus there is never a dull moment when in the office! The support from other colleagues and making some good friends along the way!
What do you think are essential key skills to have as a Regional Manager?
Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment, adjusting to meet the needs of various characters you come across from consultants, agents and landowners. The desire to want and achieve more.
What is your proudest achievement with Richborough?
The ability to say, I have worked at Richborough for over 7 years watching the business grow to the heights we’re at now and contributing to the success along the way.
