Briony was promoted into the role of Planning Delivery Manager in January 2025 and is an integral part of our team, bringing a thoughtful, proactive and collaborative approach to our projects.
We sat down with her to hear more about her diverse career to date and what she enjoys outside of the office.
- What does a typical day involve for a Planning Delivery Manager?
There is no typical day in the Planning Delivery Team as everyday is different! The role is very varied and involves working closely with external consultants to prepare and submit planning applications, as well as project managing live applications to get them through determination with the aim of achieving planning permission. My day can involve meetings with the project team to discuss ongoing technical work, pre-application discussions with the Local Planning Authority and liaising with Case Officers to discuss live applications. My role also involves a large amount of day-to-day project management including inputting data into The Richborough Platform and communicating with the Regional teams to discuss progress with applications.
- What do you enjoy about your role?
I enjoy the variation within my role as I’m always learning new things and building on my professional knowledge. It is also a very rewarding job as I am involved from the start of the process when an application is handed over to the Planning Delivery team to the end of the process when we achieve planning permission. The social aspect of the role is great as there is a large amount of communication whether that be with external consultants or my colleagues and I also have the opportunity to attend networking events as well as site visits, so I never feel like I’m stuck behind the screen!
- What do you enjoy about working for Richborough?
I have been with the business for coming up to 7 years so I would say the biggest thing that I enjoy about working for Richborough is the people. There is so much knowledge within the team meaning I have learnt a lot during my time here, but I’ve also made some great friends who make working here so much fun!
- What is your proudest achievement with Richborough? (a particular site or initiative we can talk about etc)
I would say my proudest achievement is when we achieved planning permission on our site at Chesterfield Road in Matlock as that was the first project that I had a big involvement in and then seeing it through to the sale of Homes by Honey was very rewarding.
- What advice would you give to someone aspiring to enter the field of land promotion?
As someone who had no prior experience in land promotion I would advise speaking to as many people within the industry as possible and undertaking work experience as that will provide the best opportunity to hear first hand about the role. Land promotion can be very varied meaning you often have to be a ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ which can be quite daunting for someone who is new to the industry.
- How do you unwind after a particularly challenging project or day?
I have recently started to get into running and although I won’t be doing the marathon any time soon I do recommend it for clearing your head after a stressful day. I am also a bit of a fair weather runner, so now the days are getting colder and darker I also enjoy cooking with a particular love for Italian food – a hearty plate of carbs can solve most of life’s problems!
