Construction is under way on Lidl GB’s brand-new supermarket at Richborough’s 19-acre mixed-use development in Market Weighton, East Riding of Yorkshire.
The approximately 21,500 sq ft state-of-the-art foodstore is expected to create around 40 jobs for the local community and open its doors to the public later this year.
Richborough Commercial worked with Richborough’s Northern residential team to promote the site, leading on the commercial element and helping to shape a joined-up development that makes the best use of the land.
What will the new Market Weighton Lidl offer?
Once complete, the supermarket will deliver the discounter’s latest store design, feature a spacious sales area, including an in-store bakery, the iconic Middle of Lidl aisle and customer toilets with baby-changing facilities.
Outside, the development will provide customer parking with electric vehicle charging points. The approved plans also include rooftop solar panels, a wildlife meadow, a pond and landscaping.

The latest photographs from the site show construction progressing and the new store beginning to take shape.
Nick Jones, Group Director of Richborough Commercial, said: “Seeing construction of the supermarket under way is a rewarding milestone. This development demonstrates what can be achieved by combining our commercial and residential expertise to create a balanced scheme that responds to local needs and delivers the best value for all stakeholders.”
Liam Schofield, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said: “We are delighted to have started construction on our new Market Weighton store, representing a multi-million-pound investment in the area. The progress on site reflects the strong and collaborative relationship we have built with Richborough Commercial.
This groundbreaking milestone is an exciting step forward in our mission to bring high-quality, great-value products to even more shoppers. We look forward to watching the store take shape over the coming months and welcoming local residents through our doors.”
New Market Weighton homes from Danum Homes

The Lidl supermarket forms part of a wider mixed-use development that will also deliver 120 homes, together with walking and cycling routes, public open space and landscaping.
Danum Homes is bringing forward the residential element of the site as The Wolds. The development will provide a mix of energy-efficient two, three and four-bedroom houses and bungalows set within landscaped green space.
The new homes are designed to meet the needs of people at different stages of life while helping to respond to local housing demand.
Harry Jackson, Regional Director of Richborough’s Northern residential team, said: “Market Weighton is a great example of what can be achieved when residential and commercial expertise come together. It’s rewarding to see our plans becoming a reality and delivering much-needed homes, green space and improved connections alongside the new supermarket.
“The Wolds will offer a varied choice of energy-efficient homes within an attractive, well-connected neighbourhood. Together with the new Lidl and wider commercial development, it will create lasting benefits for Market Weighton and its community.”
We look forward to watching the new Lidl supermarket, The Wolds and the wider Market Weighton neighbourhood continue to take shape.
