Members of the Swiers Trust say their two recent land sales in Harrogate, secured by Richborough Estates, has been a much-welcomed event.
The Trust had made various attempts at selling the land since the 1980s but struggled to secure a housing allocation in the Harrogate Local Plan.
Following a recommendation in 2015, they appointed Richborough Estates to promote their land which was circa 90 acres. After a period of sustained promotion, we secured two housing allocations in the adopted 2020 Harrogate District Local Plan.
Less than a year later we successfully secured planning permission and sold both plots to Redrow Homes, who are set to deliver high quality family homes including affordable properties as well as a range of community benefits.
As a result of our success, we have also been appointed to promote another parcel of land in Harrogate on behalf of the Swiers Trust.

The Swiers Trust said: “We’ve been trying to dispose of the land since the 1980s but complex issues including access and changing government policies made the process hard for us to manage.
“We’re so pleased that we appointed Richborough Estates and are delighted with our relationship. It has been a difficult task but they have done a sterling job and handled the process so professionally, including dealing with the various stakeholders and authorities.
“We’re pleased to see our land providing important new homes with 40 per cent being affordable and the best standards of sustainability.”
Huge thanks to the whole Richborough Estates team involved with this promotion project, including Harry Jackson, Jonathan Bloor, Jordan Gresham, Charlotte Lewis, Haydn Jones, Dean Knight and our former colleague Cherry Ryan-Bloor.
